This guide describes an intended experience that is not generally available. The screenshots use sample data. Workflows, labels and availability can change before release.

Cost categories are how finance actually uses CloudHealth Perspectives and Harness Cost Categories: map raw provider cost onto products, teams and shared platforms. This page is Preview. Today you can still filter Cost Explorer by account.

Preview interface. This capability is not generally available.

Intended workflow

  1. Create a business view (for example Checkout platform).
  2. Attach a rule: tag, account, subscription or shared split.
  3. Open Unallocated until finance accepts the remainder.
  4. Use the same views in reports and budgets so engineering and finance argue about one number.

Rule types

RuleExampleWhen to use
Tagproduct = checkoutThe export already has a stable product tag
Accountaccount = data-productsA whole linked account is one team
SharedSplit core infrastructure proportionallyNAT, egress, logging that no product owns

Unallocated spend

Unallocated is a finding, not a rounding error. It usually means missing tags — see Compliance.

Preview. Fix tags or add a shared-split rule; do not hide the remainder.

What you can do today

Filter Cost Explorer by account and provider. Do not promise chargeback from named categories until this is generally available.
